Photos & Archives

The Museum has over 20,000 images as well as archive material relating to the history of the Coeur dâAlene Region. The information is on a searchable database located at the Museum. Call for an appointment to use the Library Tuesday through Saturday 208-664-3448 or e-mail or mail us your inquiries.

  • Information about National Register of Historic Places in Kootenai County. Site forms and surveys completed by the Kootenai County Historic Preservation Commission. Reference materials concerning restoration and preservation of buildings and sites.
  • Books, manuscripts and printed materials on local history, city directories, school annuals, phone books, and a state census index for 1910.
  • Abstracts and indexes of marriage records, school censuses, teacher certificates, cemetery listings, homestead patents, probate records etc. for Kootenai County. These are also available at the Kootenai County Library in Hayden.
  • Reference books about the museum field, preservation, administration, governing boards, developing and maintaining collections, exhibits, fundraising, and oral history are in the research library collection.
  • Newspapers, limited collection. The Hayden Lake Library and North Idaho College have more complete collections of local newspapers on microfilm. In its Northwest Room, the Spokane Public Library has The Spokesman Review with indexing up to the 1920s.
  • Oral history tapes about labor history in the lumbering industry. North Idaho College has a large oral history collection.

  • Photograph reproductions not intended to produce a profit, such as personal use, schools, non-profit organizations, churches and government agencies
  • 4"x 5"    $5.00.    11" x 14" - $25.00
  • 5" x 7"    $8.00.   16" x 20" - $40.00
  • 8" x 10" $15.00.  Laser copy - $3.00

Museum Members receive a 10% discount except on laser copies.

Slides

  • 35 mm slide made from an existing Museum slide - $2.00
  • A single 35 mm slide made from a Museum photograph - $5.00
  • 3 or more 35 mm slides made from a Museum photographs - $3.00
  • Slides made with your own film and camera (retrieval fee) - $1.00

Shipping & Handling:

Shipping on mail orders $1.00 for single 5 x 7 and $2.00 for others, larger sizes more.

Scanning:

$1.00 per print retrieval fee for you to scan or video on site.

We scan to your zip disk, CD, or e-mail - $5.00 per print.
Add $6.00 to the order if we provide the disk.

Commercial Use -

The use of Museum of North Idaho photo reproductions in a medium intended to produce a profit, such as books, periodicals, advertising, commercial displays require a $10.00 use fee per image in addition to reproduction costs.  Photos are released for a one-time use only and if re-use is required permission must again be obtained.

Loans:

Original photographs are not loaned.  Photographs from the duplicate file and slides are loaned for public presentations, educational purposes, etc.
